WINDSOR, Ont. — Owners of the Ambassador Bridge and their partners will today present results of a series of technical environmental studies that support the companys intent to build a new crossing.

Todays open house will take place from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ciociaro Club in Oldcastle.

“Now that we have the guidelines in hand from Transport Canada, we are proud to share the positive news about the various technical studies with the community. The findings indicate that, the Ambassador Bridge Enhancement Project will have a positive effect on air quality and reduce existing noise and vibration levels. Our goal is to submit our environmental impact statement in the near future,” said Dan Stamper,
president of the Ambassador Bridge.

Owners of the Ambassador Bridge hope to construct a second crossing about 100 feet to the west of the current bridge. It would feature six lanes and would replace the existing structure, linking directly to the existing plazas in Windsor and Detroit.

An air quality study was conducted in the area using sensitive receptors and high-tech software, according to the bridges operators, and the results showed air quality associated with vehicle emissions will improve if the project is allowed to proceed. The company also said noise levels will decrease by two decibels compared to projected 2021 levels.

The bridge operators also said noise barriers will be placed along the west side of the Ambassador Bridge roadway. New bridge piers will be constructed on piles driven into bedrock to dampen vibrations, the bridge company said. It also said it will protect existing vegetation and that no rare or endangered species were found in the area to be affected.

The bridge company also said the Enhancement Project will have a minimal impact on surface water quality. Surface water runoff will be controlled during construction, the company vowed.
