AMTA names new exec director
CALGARY — Don Wilson has been tapped by the Alberta Motor Transport Association to take over the executive director role for Mayne Root.
Wilson, who started his new job this week, has a long history of working with the industry beginning as a driver and terminal manager, the AMTA explained on its website.
Wilson spent 32 years working with Alberta Transportation Driver Programs and Licensing Standards. While there, he worked with the AMTA on PDIC and LCV certification.
He was also involved with the Driver of the Month selection committee, the regional meetings and volunteered at the Provincial Truck Driving Championships.
On his spare time, he volunteers with the Calgary Stampede Promotions Committee and Heritage Park as a locomotive fireman. ??
Root is retiring from the AMTA. He tells Today’s Trucking that after a well-deserved break, he may return to his roots, perhaps as a consultant on the safety-enforcement side of the industry.
Wilson can be reached at donw1@amta.ca or by phone at 1-403-214-3429.??
