CALGARY, Alta. — The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) is hosting its annual conference Apr. 30 at the Rimrock Hotel in Banff.

The AMTA is still working on details for this year’s conference, but it does have several events planned already. The event will kick off Apr. 30 with a lunch reception at 11 a.m.

After lunch, the association’s Annual General Meeting will be held, which will be followed by a business session on insurance. The featured speaker will be Mark Ram, CEP and president of Markel Insurance Company of Canada. After Ram’s presentation, an insurance broker and a representative from the Insurance Board of Canada will join in to field questions on truck insurance. At the same time, a spousal program will be offered.

Comedian Paul Isaak will entertain delegates that night, during an energetic stage show including audience participation. There will also be games and prizes for attendees.

The following morning will kick off with a Continental breakfast followed by a presentation by Human Resources Development Canada, which will cover overtime pay, general holiday pay and the differences between travel time versus time worked. Interpretation of the Labour Code requirements as they concern trucking will also be clarified.

Hockey legend Dennis Hull will be the keynote speaker during brunch that day, with a presidents’ banquet and dance being held later that night with entertainment provided by Calgary band Fun in the Front Seat.
