CALGARY, Alta. — As 2004 draws to a close, the Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) is putting out the call for more safe drivers for its Driver of the Month awards.

The AMTA is encouraging Alberta fleets to nominate their safest drivers. Nomination forms (available from the AMTA) must be submitted along with a driver’s abstract and any supporting documentation that’s available.

Winners receive: a high quality leather and melton jacket; an AMTA baseball cap; a silver belt buckle; an official wall certificate (for both the company and the driver); presentation and dinner at the next AMTA regional meeting; and entry in the National Driver of the Year award.

There’s no cost involved the award is simply designed to promote safe driving. Two drivers (one from Southern Alberta and one from the north) are awarded each month based on set criteria. The winners are also featured on the AMTA Web site and newsletter.

Unsuccessful nominees are still considered in subsequent months within the same calendar year, provided the driver still has a clean driving record. For more information visit www.amta.ca or call 403-243-4161.
