Apprentices honored at awards ceremony

WINNIPEG, Man. — At a recent ceremony in Winnipeg, Manitoba’s 2001 top apprentices in 34 trades were recognized.

Education, Training and Youth Minister Drew Caldwell made the announcements.

The journey persons honored were selected on the basis of practical experience learned on the job, marks attained during technical training and recommendations from apprenticing employers and instructors.

The highest achievement award winners included:
— Heavy-duty equipment mechanic, Gary Ukena of Toromont Cat;
— Industrial Welder, David Gaudreau of Kleysen Transport;
— Transport trailer mechanic, Tony Friesen of Reimer Express Lines;
— and, Transport truck mechanic, Waylan Zelenitsky of Bison Transport.
