APTA brings driver training online

DIEPPE, N.B. – No, this doesn’t mean that drivers have to strap on virtual reality headgear or anything – nobody wants Lawnmower Man behind the wheel of a rig.

"Our members strive to provide quality training to their drivers on a consistent basis, and they’ve been asking for more online options to assist with that," said Jean-Marc Picard, executive director of APTA.

The online training service will be provided by CarriersEdge, and available in both English and French, with over 35 training modules. The topics will be updated regularly, and range from hours of service (in Canada and the U.S.), transportation of dangerous goods, to vehicle inspection.

The price isn’t bad, either: $4 per driver per month.

Mark Murrell, president of CarriersEdge, said the program allows fleets to expand their driver training programs without having to schedule weekend meetings or disrupt operations.
