Are You DUMB? Transport officials want to know
OTTAWA — If you were asked this summer if you’re a D.U.M.B. driver, don’t take it personally.
A new education program — called D.U.M.B (Distractions Undermining Motorist Behavior) — was launched across the province of Alberta in May.
Organized by the by the Insurance Bureau of Canada, the program’s goal is to curb driver distractions — a factor in 80 percent of vehicle collisions, according to IBC.
The tour has gone to community and industry functions across the province, warning drivers about the dangers of using cell phones, iPods, and other telematic devices while behind the wheel.
A D.U.M.B. driving simulator exposes drivers to on-road dangers of typical distractions like phone calls, blaring noise, among other disturbances.
