ArvinMeritor expands S. American truck parts production

TROY, Mich. — ArvinMeritor has announced plans to invest up to $10 million for its commercial vehicle business in Brazil.

The announcement comes after the company said it would shed its wheels business. The move is an effort to expand into new product segments and new manufacturing technology such as advanced gear-making, the truck component systems maker said.

In South America, the company’s production is up 9 percent quarter-over-quarter. The company attributes this success to its South American management team.

"Our growth strategy involves bringing new products and technology to South America," said Chip McClure, chairman, CEO and president. "With the right products and a dedicated and talented workforce, ArvinMeritor will continue to be a strong commercial vehicle supplier in Brazil and across the continent."

ArvinMeritor announced last week that it will sell its entire light wheels unit to Iochpe-Maxion, S.A., a Brazilian producer of wheels and frames for commercial vehicles.
