SHANGHAI, China — ArvinMeritor has opened a new manufacturing facility in the Wai Gao Qiao Shanghai Free Trade Zone to better keep pace with the country’s growing commercial vehicle market.

The operation will produce $5 million in sales for 2003, and employs 20 people.

The 2,100-square-metre facility will house the assembly and manufacturing of bus and coach axles and brakes including components for low-floor buses. Eventually the facility will see the assembly and supplying of total axle assemblies for commercial vehicles.

“Our two joint ventures along with our other business operations in China continue to give us great confidence in the burgeoning commercial vehicle market. The new facility offers our company more growth and the ability to serve more existing and potential customers,” says Tom Gosnell, president of the company’s Commercial Vehicle Systems business group.
