ArvinMeritor to build steel wheels for trucks
SAN LUIS POTOSI, Mexico (May 9, 2001) — ArvinMeritor said it will build steel wheels for commercial trucks at its factory in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The plant currently produces steel wheels for cars and light trucks.
A recent expansion at the plant added the capacity and machinery to produce steel wheels up to 22.5 inches in diameter, the company said in a press release. The capability to produce larger wheels for the commercial market Òleverages the synergy between ArvinMeritor’s Light Vehicle Systems and Commercial Vehicle Systems businesses and allows for the company to reach virtually all OEM customers with steel wheels,Ó the company said.
The addition of wheels to the commercial market complements the company’s wheel-end offering of brake systems, hubs, and drums.
The San Luis Potosi plant features a new heavy stamping line, an automatic rim rolling line, machining cells for both discs and rims, and assembly and welding cells for production of the larger truck steel wheels.
