The American Trucking Associations opened a survey for its driver compensation study. It is seeking input from U.S. trucking fleets on topics such as driver pay, benefits, and bonuses. The survey is open until March 30.

Last conducted in 2024, it is designed for a variety of carriers in the sector, including for-hire truckload, less-than-truckload, private fleets, and other commercial carriers.

The 2026 edition will provide pay estimates by carrier type, trailer type, and route, along with analysis of different pay structures, from hourly, and per-mile, to annual salary and percent of revenue, as well as explore various incentives offered to drivers.

“In order to get as accurate a picture of industry trends as possible, we rely on input from a large cross-section of motor carriers to provide detailed information about their total compensation packages and supply a clear view of how – and how much – trucking companies pay their drivers,” said ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello, in a news release.

“In this difficult and prolonged freight recession, the companies with the greatest edge are the ones that have the best data.  As a one-of-a-kind benchmarking tool, the driver compensation study provides the crucial, actionable intelligence motor carriers need to recruit and retain their most valuable resource: professional truck drivers.”
