Atlantic Canada drivers make it to the top

MASSTOWN, N.S. — Forty-three Atlantic Canada drivers participated in the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association’s 2003 Professional Truck Driving Championships last weekend.

In order to compete, drivers had to be professional truck drivers and had to have maintained an accident-free driving record for at least a full year before the event.

The Championship is designed to promote safe driving skills and professional awareness of truck drivers and the trucking industry.

The winners for the 2-Axle Class were:
1st Place Sandy Cooke, Armour Transportation Systems
2nd Place Ron Mattinson, Roy B. Mattinson and Sons Trucking
3rd Place Roy Mattinson, Roy B. Mattinson and Sons Trucking
Professionalism Brian Upham, Armour Transportation Systems

The winners for the 4-Axle Class were:
1st Place Troy MacLean, Armour Transportation Systems
2nd Place Donald Umlah, Unique Personnel Services
3rd Place Malcolm Matthews, Unique Personnel Services
Professionalism Ron Leopard, Advantage Personnel

The winners for the 5-Axle Class were:
1st Place Jeff Tooker, Eassons Transport Ltd.
2nd Place John Sweeney, Midland Transport Limited
3rd Place Terry Ritchie, Sunbury Transport Limited
Professionalism Alan Constantine, Armour Transportation Systems

The Rookie of the Year award went to John Sweeney, and the Team award went to Sandy Cooke, Brian Upham, Dollard LeBlanc, Alan Constantine and Troy MacLean of Armour Transportation Systems.
