Atlantic Canada crowns top driving champs

TRURO, N.S. — The top truck drivers in Atlantic Canada tested their mettle during the annual Driving Championships June 1. The event, hosted by the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association Safety Council, saw 47 participants compete to become part of Team Atlantic at the forthcoming National Driving Championships in Vancouver this September.

The top prizes of the day in the four main categories were awarded as follows:

2-Axle:  Roy Mattinson, Roy B. Mattinson & Sons Trucking
4-Axle:  Herb Peters, Days & Ross Transportation Group
5-Axle:  Roland Ralph Craig, Midland Transport Limited
B-Train:  Shawn Pieschke, The TDL Group

Day & Ross Transportation Group took home the Team Award and Jean-Marc Detraz of Keltic Transportation was named Rookie of the Year.

2 Axle (Straight Truck)
1st place – Roy Mattinson, Roy B. Mattinson & Sons Trucking
2nd place– John Chambers, Armour Transportation Systems
3rd place – Art Burns, Connors Transfer Ltd.
Professionalism – John Chambers, Armour Transportation Systems

4 Axle (Single Tandem)
1st place – Herb Peters, Day & Ross Transportation Group
2nd place– Steve MacPhee, Day & Ross Transportation Group
3rd place – Ulysse Doiron, Midland Transport Limited
Professionalism – Dollar Leblanc, Armour Transportation Systems

5 Axle (Tandem Tandem) 
1st place – Roland Ralph Craig, Midland Transport Limited
2nd place – Luc Delcourt, Day & Ross Transportation Group
3rd place – Norman Gallant, Armour Transportation Systems
Professionalism – Ken Swinamer, Connors Transfer Ltd.

B-Train (Super B Train)
