August Freight Costs For Canadian Shippers Stay Flat

TORONTO — The total cost of ground transportation increased 1.2 percent in August from July, according to the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI).

“Total Cost of Freight is down three percent from a year ago,” said Doug Payne, President & COO, Nulogx. “Base Freight costs are 3.4 percent below last year.”

The Base Rate Index — which doesn’t include Accessorial Charges — held steady with no change from July to August.

Meanwhile, Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by carriers increased; 20.12 percent of Base Rates in August compared with July’s 19.25 percent.
