TORONTO, Ont. — Edo van Belkom, the author behind the popular “Mark Dalton: Owner/Operator” series featured in Truck News and Truck West, has been honoured for his literary work in young adult fiction.

At a gala awards ceremony at Harbourfront in Toronto, the Brampton author Edo was presented the prestigious Silver Birch Award for his first young adult novel, “Wolf Pack”.

This latest accolade lengthens the list of honours attached to van Belkom, who is the Bram Stoker and Aurora Award-winning author of more than 25 books and 200 stories.

The Silver Birch Award is part of the Ontario Library Association’s “Forest of Reading” which has school children from all across Ontario voting for their favorite title from a
short-list of nominees in both fiction and non-fiction categories.

The Silver Birch is the second award bestowed upon “Wolf Pack”. The novel also won the Aurora Award (Canada’s top prize for science fiction and fantasy) in 2005 in the best Long Form work in English category.

Published in October 2004, “Wolf Pack” became the first in what would eventually turn into a series of novels. A year later the sequel, “Lone Wolf” followed and the third book, “Cry Wolf” will be available in October 2007.

On the day “Wolf Pack” won the Silver Birch Award, the second book in the series, “Lone Wolf” was named an Aurora Award finalist for 2006.
