Aux Generators Pops the Hood on Idle Hawk

by Tire groups lobby for reserve pressure capacity requirement for tires

With its Idle Hawk auxiliary generator shelved until later this year, Aux Generators of Dundalk, Ont., has taken two existing products and incorporated Idle Hawk features into them. The company’s “Hawk” (a re-engineered “Aux”) and “GenHawk” (a re-engineered “GenAux”) feature “auto” mode, which automatically shuts down the generator when the cab reaches target temperature. In moderate weather, this feature can cut fuel consumption by an additional 50 per cent, the company says.

The release of the idle Hawk was delayed last year when engineers realized “bugs needed to be worked out,” says Aux president J.T. Bhabra. The discovery wasn’t made until after the product was formally introduced and orders were being taken. Bhabra expects Idle Hawk to hit the road by mid-2003, but he’s making no blind promises.

“This has been a painful experience — for us, for the operators who ordered the unit, and for our dealers,” Bhabra admits. “We could go in a corner and hide, or kick ourselves and curse fate. But that wouldn’t change the past and it wouldn’t get our buyers the generator they want. When we bring Idle Hawk to market, it will be a fully tested top-quality unit that will offer more features and better value than anything they can buy today.” Until then, the company will continue to sell the enhanced Hawk and GenHawk models.
