Average Weekly Diesel Cost Edges Slightly Higher

LONDON, ONTARIO and WASHINGTON, D.C. — The average cost of diesel fuel in Canada has moved slightly higher over the past week, according to the latest report from the petroleum information services provider The Kent Group Ltd

It gained $0.002 cent from last week to $1.124 per liter, following a drop of $0.008 the week before.

Compared to this week a year ago the price is $0.232 per liter less.

This week in small markets diesel averaged $1.132 while it’s $1.118 in large markets.

Prices in the Atlantic part of the country averageD $1.124, Quebec is $1.185, Ontario at $1.123, while the Western Canada average came in at $1.115.

Meantime, the average cost of regular grade gasoline moved down $0.015 cent over the past week to a national average of $1.221 per liter.

This follows an increase the previous week when it picked up $0.054.

When compared to this week in 2014 the average regular grade gasoline price is down $0.191.

Meantime, in the U.S., the average price for on-highway diesel declined for the fourth straight week according to the U.S. Energy Department.

Nationally, it dropped by US$0.011 cents last week to US$2.859 per gallon and is US$1.06 cheaper when compared with this time last year.

Over the past month it has fallen US$0.05.

Gasoline prices were also down over the past week, dropping US$0.023 to US$2.812 per gallon. This was its first drop in 10 weeks, leaving it US$0.892 cents less than the same time last year.
