KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Despite public opposition, B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell says the province is moving forward with a plan to privatize the Coquihalla Hwy.

Campbell did, however, say the public-private partnership may be altered to please residents in the Okanagan region who have voiced displeasure over the plan to allow a private company to operate the toll highway.

“We’re very clear we’re proceeding with the public-private partnership,” Campbell recently told local media. “From Kamloops and the Okanagan, clearly people are upset. That’s why we have to pay attention to them. We also have to recognize public-private partnerships are a positive way of generating benefits people in Kamloops and the Okanagan have asked for.”
