VICTORIA, B.C. — The province of B.C. says it has wrapped up one of its busiest construction years ever as it bolsters infrastructure to support growing trade with Asia.

About $1.5 billion in construction projects were completed this year in the province, mostly dedicated towards improved rail infrastructure for CN and CP Railways.

The province also announced it has committed $15 million towards the planned Port of Prince Rupert development.

The Port Mann/Hwy. 1 project is now more than half done and the South Fraser Perimeter Road has seen progress along the 40-km route, the province announced. Truck traffic will be rerouted from local roads onto portions of the South Fraser Perimeter Road in Surrey beginning in 2012.
