BC carbon tax going up. Again.
VICTORIA — British Columbia’s much derided carbon tax on fuel is going up next week.
Truck drivers can expect to pay more than a cent on diesel starting on July 1. It will rise from 3.84 to 5.11 cents per litre.
The carbon tax on gasoline will also rise from 3.33 to 4.45 cents per liter.
According to the B.C. Trucking Association, the provincial motor fuel taxes (MFT) on diesel now come to 29.11 cents per liter in Metro Vancouver, 23.61 cents per liter in the Capital Region District (i.e., Victoria) and 20.11 cents per liter elsewhere in the province.
The carbon tax is set to rise annually until 2012, when it will reach 7.67 cents a liter.
The BCTA is urging carriers to remind shippers of the new tax rate and adjust surcharges and rates accordingly.
