BCTA seeks repeal of local truck-marking bylaw
SURREY, B.C. — Trucking companies in B.C. are asking West Vancouver to maintain consistency when it comes to rules governing marking requirements for weights and dimensions.
City Council recently passed a bylaw (No. 4370, Sec 10.5) that requires all vehicles over 2,700 kg be marked with the vehicle’s overall length, tare weight and the name of the registered owner or company.
This is contrary to the BC Motor Vehicle Act Regulations (MVAR), which states vehicles with a GVW of 5,000 kg or more be marked with only the name of the carrier that holds the vehicle’s Safety Certificate.
The BC Trucking Association is requesting that West Vancouver repeal the bylaw. By doing so, the municipality would avoid confusing motor carriers that operate within its boundaries with unnecessary duplication of regulations.
