Bendix ready for NHTSA brake distance rule

ELYRIA, Ohio — Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake, one of the leading OEM advocates for a 30 percent reduction in stopping distance for trucks, is applauding the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s final rule announced last month

The company says its lineup of foundation brakes meet the new government standard, including drum brakes, disc brakes or a combination of both.

The new rule requires implementation on three-axle tractors by August 1, 2011, while tractors with two axles and severe-service tractors must be in compliance by August 1, 2013.

"Vehicle OEMs and fleets can make purchase decisions based upon their needs and preferences," said Aaron Schwass, director for the foundation drum group at Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake. "We have been committed to developing advanced technology that meets the new requirements, while providing our customers a cost-effective solution to improve brake service life."
