Big Freight driver named Manitoba’s best

WINNIPEG — Bill Gagnon of Big Freight Systems is the winner of the 2010 Manitoba Trucking Association-Volvo Trucks Canada Driver of the Year.

The award was announced at the 2010 MTA Driver Awards Banquet, held on Saturday, June 26.

Gagnon got his start as a truck driver 43 years ago with the Canadian Armed Forces before moving on to the for-hire trucking sector in 1983.

Still, averaging 110,000 miles annually, Gagnon is a coast-to-coast highway driver who has plenty of experience on winter/bush off-roads as well.

Gagnon is a driver who "goes out of his way to make himself available for any jobs," and "has a customer-first attitude, but is also a strong team player," comments Adrian Van Rassel, operations manager with Big Freight Systems.

He is willing to help new drivers to the company, and is willing to lend a hand to drivers when it comes to securing and tarping their loads, adds Van Rassel.

Away from the road, Gagnon is "the consummate outdoorsman." He loves to fish, hunt, hike, and spending time with his family.
