BANFF, Alta. — Robert Enns of Bison Transport was named the 2008 Alberta Dispatcher of the Year at the recent Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) convention.

Dispatchers today are the most versatile individuals in a company, according to Dan Green of Shaw Tracking, which sponsored and presented the award.

“They are operations people, administrators, managers and salespeople,” said Green, before presenting the award. “They are the first line of representation of your company to your customers, and of your company to your drivers. Their position is truly the cornerstone of any company, and they must be able to balance profitability along with fairness and good judgment.”

Bison Transport drivers think highly of Enns, according to Green, who relayed one driver testimonial. “He is very conscious of the elements that create the working environment. Client care, safety, drivers well-being, courtesy, team work, and problem-solving are just some of these elements. Speaking as a driver, he has never put my health or safety at risk.”

The Bison Transport management team also praised Enns’ work ethic, and indicated that he is an integral part of the team. “He has all the typical competencies associated with the role of dispatch in abundance,” relayed Green, who also lists employee attributes that include excellence at communication, analytical skills, and a commitment to finding the right solution.

“But perhaps the most valuable characteristic Enns brings to the Bison organization is an attitude of ownership and enthusiasm for the company operation,” added Green.

As well as the award, Enns also won a $750 cash prize.
