Bud Barr money handed out to young students
TORONTO, (Nov. 12, 2004) — Two young Ontario women pursuing post-secondary studies have been selected to receive the Bud Barr Scholarship Fund for 2004.
Amanda Lampman and Ruth-Ann Grossett received the scholarships at the Ontario Trucking Association convention yesterday. The fund was first established three years ago by OTA to provide financial assistance to families of university or college-bound son or daughter of an employee of an OTA member company having a tough time making ends meet as the result of illness, injury or death of their parent.
Each recipient receives $2,500 towards post-secondary studies.
Amanda Lampman is attending Brock University in St. Catharines where she is studying Therapeutic Recreation and wishes to make a career in working with the brain injured. Ruth-Ann Grossett is attending York University in Toronto where she is pursuing a degree in specialized economics and aspires to become an investment banker.
Amanda Lampman is the daughter of David Lampman, a truck driver who died in July of this year when his straight truck collided with an out-of-control car in front of him.
Ruth-Ann Grossett is the daughter of Ricky Grossett who was employed by D & W Forwarders Inc. who passed away unexpectedly. Ruth-Ann’s mother Victoria is also employed by the company.
The award is named in honour of Bud Barr in recognition of his lifelong commitment to educating the trucking industry’s offspring. Mr. Barr is the current head of the OTA Education Foundation Inc., a registered non-profit organization and a retired former owner and senior manager in the Ontario trucking industry.
