Burlington Skyway closed after winds tip truck over

HAMILTON, ON – The Burlington Skyway bridge is closed in both directions after a tractor-trailer has been blown on its side by powerful winds today.

Crews are battling wind gusts while attempting to recover the truck which tipped on its side on the Niagara bound side of the bridge around noon.

“Burlington Skyway closed in both directions due to high winds and a rolled over transport truck,” said Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, a spokesperson for the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on Twitter.

While two drivers were in the truck at the time of the incident, it’s been confirmed there were no injuries.

The QEW is now closed between Eastpost Drive and Northshore Drive and at this point there is no indication when the bridge will reopen.

Southern Ontario residents were warned to prepare for the winds today after a special weather statement calling for wind gusts of up to 90 km/h was issued by Environment Canada this morning.
