Cab manufacturers aim to continue growth

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Commercial Vehicle Group is looking to build on its past 18 months of growth and expand further into the market of cab manufacturing for heavy-duty trucks.

At the Mid-America Trucking Show, CVG unveiled its plans to create a one-stop shop for cab manufacturing. A model Class7/8 cab was on display during MATS comprised of products from each of the company’s divisions including cab stamping from Mayflower Vehicle Systems, wiring systems from Monona Wire, soft and hard trim interior from Trim Systems and Cabarrus Plastics, seats from National Seating and mirrors and wipers from Sprague Devices.

“It’s one stop shopping for complete cab systems from the strategies of our seven divisions,” explained Michael Hof, vice-president of customer sales. “We’re not here to compete with OEMs, we’re here to augment their capacity and compliment them to provide a solution they may not have thought of.”

Hof noted the manufacturing company is in alliance with one OEM in North America and is working with several others.

Three acquisitions in 2005 allowed CVG to bring all aspects of cab manufacturing, except glass production, to the group. During a six-month span, Mayflower Vehicle Systems, Monona Wire and Cabarrus Plastics became part of CVG and the company has plans for further expansion in the future.

“Each acquisition brought opportunities within its own base for expansion and we plan on further acquisitions down the road,” noted Hof.
