Calgary driver takes top spot in Alberta showdown

RED DEER, Alta. — For the next year, Calgary will have bragging rights over Edmonton for more than just making the NHL playoffs, they also have Alberta’s top professional driver: David Bulechowsky.

The Alberta Motor Transport Association held their annual Professional Truck Driving Championships last Saturday at the usual spot of Red Deer’s Westerner Park.

A driver with the City of Calgary, David Bulechowsky took first place in the Straight Truck category, and was also crowned Grand Champion.

Other winners from the event included:

Randy Smith of Canadian Freightways – Step Van
Patrick Thorne of Canadian Freightways – Single-Single
Timothy Bingley of Sokil Express – Single-Tandem
Dirk Reid of Bison Transport – Tandem-Tandem
Steve Calhoun of Canadian Freightways – B-Train

Canadian Freightways also took home the team award, while Darryl Smith of Rosenau Transport was named the Rookie of the Year.
