Calgary firm opens special bridge monitoring division

CALGARY — Pure Technologies has formed a new specialty bridge engineering division, Bridge Engineering Solutions (BES), to service the increasing demand for bridge assessment and monitoring services in North America.

Pure Technologies is an international technology company which has developed patented technologies for inspection, monitoring and management of critical infrastructure around the world.

Pure Technologies has been active in bridge monitoring and inspection since 1997. Its patented SoundPrint acoustic monitoring technology is currently installed on more than 20 bridges in six countries.

“Recent bridge failures in Canada and the U.S. have highlighted the need for an increasing emphasis on inspection, monitoring and management of bridges,” said Jack Elliott, COO of Pure Technologies. “Although we have been active in providing monitoring solutions for bridges over the last 10 years, as a technology vendor we have been limited in the opportunities we could access.”

The formation of BES aims to allow Pure a wider range of innovative services and solutions to consulting engineers and bridge owners.

Dr. Armin Mehrabi has been appointed president of BES. Mehrabi holds a Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Colorado. In 1997, he was selected as one of the top 25 Newsmakers of the Year by Engineering News Record, an industry publication, for his contribution to the development of a new non-destructive assessment method for cable-stayed bridges.

Pure operates from its headquarters in Calgary, Canada and through subsidiaries in Maryland and New Jersey.
