Canadian company helps manage traffic at the dock

Warehouse Systems Inc. of Mississauga, Ont. says it has come up with a communication device for both the truck driver and loading dock personnel. Although many docks are equipped with safety devices that lock trucks into place, the company says that often absent from docks is a mechanism that informs all parties of the truck’s safety status at the dock.

With that in mind, the company has introduced the TriLite Stop & Go Light. The light indicates when the truck is in active service at the dock and must therefore not be removed by the driver. While the truck is being directed to an individual dock,
Stop & Go on the outside wall is switched to flashing green. Once the truck (or trailer) is safely docked and locked in place by a lock and/or wheel chocks, the light is switched to flashing red. This tells the driver he must get clearance before attempting to move the truck again. A second Stop & Go light can be wired inside the building to flash opposite-colour signals, and so keep loading dock personnel aware of the truck’s safety status.

The device can be controlled independently or with a Control Console. Their safety-yellow polypropylene housing will not rust, pit, dent or corrode like similar metal units, the company says. The shallow depth of the unit, being less than most dock bumpers, reduces the risk of damage, and when a replacement bulb is required, it is the standard 12-volt automotive type.

Stop & Go lights are compatible with any type of loading dock and have an upper visor just like most regular traffic signals, to help keep them visible even in bright ambient light.
