Canadian Freight Index Stays Steady

MISSISSAUGA, ON. — There was little change in TransCore Link Logistics August Canadian Freight Index.

Both month-over-month and year-over-year load volumes were down a slight two percent, and matched April levels.

Cross-border postings accounted for 68 percent of total volumes for August, while loads originating in the United States destined for provinces within Canada dropped by 11 percent year-over-year. Cross-border loads originating in Canada destined to the United States increased by six percent compared to the same period last year.

Intra-Canada load volumes dropped by one percent year-over-year and accounted for 26 percent of the total volumes for August, TransCore reported.

Equipment postings settled in August after hitting a ten-year high in July. “Month-over-month equipment postings were down by three percent, and were seven percent above posting levels for the same period last year,” TransCore said. “August’s equipment-to-load ratio decreased to 2.57 from 2.62 in July.”
