Canadian highway heroes sought

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — There’s only a couple of months left to nominate a trucker you think deserves to be named the Bridgestone Canadian Truck Hero.

The award’s creator and sponsor Bridgestone Canada is urging members of the Canadian trucking industry to act soon, before the Sept. 30 deadline.

"We should not let heroic highway acts go unrecognized," said Jim West, GM, Commercial Products of Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions.

The award program looks for trucking professionals who have gone beyond the call of duty to lend a helping hand to someone in need while on the road. All good Samaritan acts, no matter how big or small, are considered.

The recipient of this national award will receive a cheque for $3,000, a specially-commissioned trophy and a two-day expense-paid trip for two to the award ceremony in November held in Toronto in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Ontario Trucking Association.

BSCA will also make a $3,000 donation to the recipient’s charity of choice.
