Canadian imports and exports rebound in March

OTTAWA, Ont. — Canadian imports and exports reached record highs in March.

Exports topped $40.6 billion for the month, which was a 1.4% increase over February. Leading the way were automotive exports which jumped 7.9% to $7.4 billion.

Imports were also on the rise, reaching a new record of $35.9 billion an increase of 3.3%. Energy imports led the way. Imports were up in every sector except for forest products and agricultural and fishing products.

Imports from the US were up more than $1 billion, totaling $23.6 billion. Exports into the US increased by more than $300 million to $31.3 billion.
