Cancom, Tailwind sign software deal
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. (Aug 2, 2005) — Cancom Tracking, a leader the in the Canadian mobile communications industry, has announced Tailwind Management Systems Inc. became a Cancom certified software partner.
B.C.-based Tailwind is a supplier of transportation management software to the North American trucking industry for all aspects of trucking operations and administration.
Working with Cancom Tracking’s patented “Circle of Service”, Tailwind manages the information provided by drivers with their software using CMS’s message management module. Drivers will be able to update shipment status and receive load assignments through OmniTRACS. OmniTRACS also transmits vehicle-positioning information that can be integrated into the Tailwind software.
Most of the information currently entered by drivers and dispatchers will be captured, transferred via OmniTRACS, and then updated automatically into CMS. This will save countless hours of mundane entry allowing the dispatch to find back-hauls as well as additional partial shipments, thereby helping the carrier to reduce empty miles while maximizing trailer capacity and revenue, Cancom says.
“As a software partner with Cancom we have added a new level to our unique line of features by enabling our clients to communicate easily with their fleets and have enhanced real-time management and tracking,” Peter Bryant, president of Tailwind stated.
Added Mike Ham, vice-president of Cancom Tracking: “We have a number of Cancom customers currently using Tailwinds’ software, so we are pleased to be able to certify them as software partners. Integration is becoming imperative; it is difficult for transportation companies to remain competitive if they operate piece meal. Having all aspects of their operations streamlined naturally makes operations more efficient.”
To become a certified software provider, each software company candidate must develop the necessary components of an interface between its dispatch software and Cancom Tracking’s OmniTRACS System, and meet the functional macro integration specifications providing application links to a dispatch system.
