TORONTO, Ont. — The Career Path Committee will be holding an open meeting during the 5th annual Canadian Recruitment and Retention Conference at the Doubletree International Plaza in Toronto on Sept. 24. The committee was formed in January to compile possible careers within the trucking industry and determine the respective education and experience requirements.

The committee plans to unveil its work to date and solicit feedback from stakeholders and representatives from all facets of the transportation industry. All interested parties are invited to attend this event and share their views and comments.

In order to make our business more appealing we need to catch up with other industries in attracting both combination of youth and mature worker into our profession, said Chris Harris, committee chairperson. One key item has been missing is a career path which explains the options within our industry available to drivers when they have a desire for growth and the process that needs to be followed for each of these desired careers.

The committee is looking to both inform drivers of career paths in the industry while also educating the public on jobs available in trucking and improving their perception of the industry.

There is no cost to attend the meeting, but those wishing to attend the rest of the conference must register separately at www.overtheroad.ca. For more information contact Harris at HarrisCareerPath@gmail.com.
