Carrier ORs improve in 4Q 08

OTTAWA — Canadian for-hire trucking companies with annual revenue of $1 million or more generated operating revenue of $7.2 billion in the fourth quarter, up 1.7 percent from the same quarter a year earlier.

According to Stats Canada, these companies reported operating expenses of $6.8 billion, practically unchanged from the fourth quarter of 2007. As a result, the operating ratio (operating expenses divided by operating revenue) improved to 0.93 from 0.95 a year earlier.
