MARKHAM, Ont. — A new collaboration between a driver safety program and driver collision and analysis system, was announced this week.

The CarriersEdge driver development service will now be available as a bundled service, offered with Viewnyx’s Lookout collision warning and driving analysis system. This includes a full range of CarriersEdge modules, such as defensive driving, HoS and logbooks, dangerous goods, and cargo securement, among others. The new agreement is intended to offer an improved level of customer service for fleet management, and consequently, safer drivers.

“This is a natural fit,” said president of CarriersEdge, Mark Murrell. “Viewnyx has an excellent Web-based system for monitoring on-road performance and identifying at-risk behaviour. Paired with the online driver improvement in CarriersEdge: it’s a powerful combination,” he said of a corporate sentiment that is shared by Viewnyx.

“Viewnyx is focused on providing a complete driving safety and quality improvement solution to our customers,” said the vice president of marketing for Viewnyx, Ellen Warren. “By including CarriersEdge as a bundled service, our customers now have access to industry-leading online training and assessment.”

Viewnyx gives in-cab warnings for unintentional lane departures, as well as a camera-based lookout system, which identifies high-risk drivers and isolates their problem driving behaviours, providing video clips to identify and correct habits. CarriersEdge provides online training, testing and reporting tools that allow fleets to identify gaps in driver knowledge and close those gaps without sacrificing mileage or driver home time.

This promises two things: safer roads through safer driving and alienation of some drivers towards their companies. Arrogant and aggressive drivers will need to be shown the safety side without being directly insulted. Of course this does expose bad driving and those responsible should be dismissed before the liability eventually surfaces. Good drivers can only expect praise for their observed skills.
