PEORIA, Ill. — Since its introduction last spring, Caterpillar’s Pocket Technician has helped drivers improve truck performance; now it offers even more functionality for fleet managers.

Fleets can monitoring truck engine functions and driving style with the handheld gewgaw and more, with the release of a specialized fleet edition allowing the fleet manager to set more than 50 truck engine parameters for maximum efficiency.

Pocket Technician is a Palm-based tool offering drivers and fleet managers advanced Cat diagnostics and electronic capabilities through the convenience and affordability of a Palm device. The original edition — the Driver Edition — gave drivers increased diagnostic capabilities and improved ability to manage truck operation. The new Fleet Edition includes the same features as the original, but also offers “read-and-change” capability on 54 engine parameters.

“The Pocket Technician Fleet Edition is designed to manage a fleet of trucks, and save the engine information to a computer,” says Steve Brown, sales development manager, Cat On-Highway Engine Division. “It allows the fleet manager to save trip data, view diagnostic information, and achieve maximum fuel mileage by setting specific engine parameters.”
