Cat Messenger provides instant feedback on engine conditions

LOUISVILLE, Ky — Caterpillar’s newly introduced Cat Messenger driver information dashboard display provides real-time, visual feedback on engine operating conditions.

The Messenger system displays fuel usage, average miles per gallon, oil pressure, coolant temperature and more on an LCD display.

Drivers can monitor their performance to achieve fuel economy goals. Messenger also provides lifetime total, trip totals and driver totals of miles driven, fuel used and other information.

A key feature is Messenger’s maintenance tracking option, where the driver can view a special alert that preventive maintenance inspections and oil changes are required.

For example, Messenger can be programmed to display the number of miles remaining until the next oil change every time the truck is started. Messenger also can calculate oil change intervals based on fuel consumption.

Messenger performs diagnostic reporting, as well as part failures as they occur. It provides diagnostic codes that the driver can relay to the dispatch center. Dispatch can then inform the driver of the severity of the problem and suggest service options.

A theft deterrent system can be programmed so drivers must enter a four-digit access code to allow normal key starting.
