CBSA says eManifests going smoothly; issues some reminders

OTTAWA — The Canada Border Services Agency says it has received about 250 eManifest conveyances and 3,403 related cargo transmissions from carriers and service providers since it became a requirement last November.

Although the numbers are relatively low, CBSA says they are increasing daily as clients complete systems testing and carriers implement electronic processes throughout their fleets.

So far, all eManifest submissions have been processed successfully and about 40 percent of monitored cargo submissions required more technical support to process successfully.

CBSA says it has encountered a few minor problems with some transactions that the agency is trying to resolve.

CBSA is asking trade partners to remind their carriers of a few items when crossing the border for eManifest shipments:

♦ The 3-digit Service Option (SO) is not required on the document or lead sheet that drivers present at the Primary Inspection Line (PIL) for eManifest shipments.

♦ As well, drivers should inform border officers that they are carrying an eManifest shipment.

♦ Present a document or lead sheet containing one bar code (either a bar-coded Conveyance Reference Number (CRN), or a bar-coded Cargo Control Number (CCN).

♦ And while the preferred eManifest identifier is a CRN, a PARS bar code with a hand-written CRN can be presented as an alternative, but, adds CBSA, this may cause delays in processing at the border.
