CBSA updating highway carrier codes

OTTAWA — The Canada Border Services Agency has launched a review of all carrier codes issued to carriers in all modes, beginning with on-highway transporters.

Each carrier with a CBSA issued carrier code will receive a letter asking such questions such as: if the carrier codes that have been issued are still active, and the information on file is current, complete and valid; that each carrier only has one carrier code per mode; and the elimination of multiple carrier codes per mode issued to the same company.

Should CBSA not receive a response from a carrier as instructed in the letter, the agency will attempt to contact that carrier by telephone to confirm that they still require the assigned carrier code.

Further, CBSA will run systems reports to establish if there is any activity against the carrier code in question. If there has been no activity for a determined period of time, and it can’t be established the company is still in business, the carrier code will be cancelled in the system.

Carriers with questions they should contact Lee Maguire, Senior Program Advisory, Commercial Border Policy Division, by email at
Lee.Maguire@cbsa-asfc.gc.ca or by phone at 905-772-2976.
