CF wheelman named Canada’s top driver

SURREY, B.C. – Heinz Alvin (John) Beeler, a truck driver with Canadian Freightways was honored with the 2010 Canadian Trucking Alliance/Volvo Trucks Canada Driver of the Year.

The award, presented at the annual Christmas Party of the British Columbia Trucking Association (BCTA), was given to Beeler for his "demonstrated dedication to safety and impressive collision-free driving career," which spans over 36 years and almost 5 million km.

"John Beeler is an outstanding truck driver and a true professional, both on and off the road," said David Bradley, CEO of the Canadian Trucking Alliance. "Canada’s highways are made safer by the efforts of John and other drivers like him."

John, who was crowed BC Driver of the Year in June and edged out all the other provincial winners for this national title, will receive a trophy, cash prize and weekend getaway for two.

He’s the first BC driver to win the national award since 2003.

"I am delighted that John has received national recognition for his outstanding safety record,” said Paul Landry, president and CEO of BCTA. "He’s not only logged 36 accident-free years as a professional driver, he has also done it in a province with the most challenging terrain in Canada."

Beeler’s driving record has earned him many accolades from organizations including the National Safety Council, the RCMP and his carrier company, CF, where he also trains new drivers.

He also offers expertise to outside carriers by consulting on safety issues and has assisted authorities in collision investigations

Volvo Trucks Canada sponsors both national and provincial Driver of the Year awards in recognition of the importance of safety in the trucking industry.
