Champlain Bridge Work, Detours Set for This Weekend

LONGUEUIL, QC – Two major work blitzes are set happen at the Champlain Bridge two out of the three next weekends, resulting in big detours for those wanting to travel between Montreal and Brossard.

Two modular trusses will be installed under the auxiliary girders that straddle Highway 132 in Brossard. To keep traffic flowing in both directions on Highway 132, the following closures and major detours will be implemented the weekend of Oct. 24-25, from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

  • Complete closure of Highway 132 in Brossard in both directions under the bridge
  • Complete closure of Westbound Marie-Victorin Boulevard under the bridge with a detour to maintain traffic flow
  • Closure of two South Shore-bound lanes on the bridge, followed by two Montreal-bound lanes
  • Closure of entrances to Highway 132 West and East from the Champlain Bridge and A-10 West
  • Right lane closed on A-15 North between exit 60 towards Verdun and exit 61 towards Atwater Avenue
  • Complete closure of exit 61 towards Atwater Avenue from A-15 North

A second closure is planned for Nov. 7-8 from 10 p.m. that Friday before to 5 a.m. the following Monday, as four modular trusses will be installed on the downstream side of the Champlain Bridge, resulting in the following traffic restrictions:

  • Complete closure of the Champlain Bridge to Montreal-bound traffic
  • Closure of access ramps to the Champlain Bridge from Highway 132 and A-10 West
  • Left lane closed on A-15 South between exit 61 towards Atwater Avenue and the Nuns’ Island bypass bridge

The work is being closely coordinated with transportation and public safety partners, both provincial and municipal, according to The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Inc. (JCCBI)

The Honoré-Mercier, Victoria and Jacques-Cartier bridges as well as the Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine Tunnel will be fully available to compensate for the closures on the Champlain Bridge, according to the company the manages the span.

Work site signage and variable message signs will detail closures and detours. The police will also be present throughout those weekends.

The JCCBI advises drivers to plan their trips in advance and consider other itineraries in order to avoid the Champlain Bridge corridor as much as possible. Maps showing the closures and detours for each blitz are available online.

The work may be delayed due to weather conditions. The public is advised to keep a check of the company’s blog in the days before each blitz to see whether the work will be going ahead.
