SIMCOE, Ont. – Aspiring driver Christine Reu will be studying the Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI) Certified Course free of charge, courtesy of Bruce R. Smith Ltd. The 27-year-old was selected as part of Bruce R. Smiths recently-formed Learn To Earn Scholarship, open to any individual in Ontario looking to start a career as a commercial tractor-trailer driver.

Reu has had the aspiration of becoming a professional driver since high school, thought not before she obtained two BA Honours degrees.

The criteria for the scholarship requires applicants to be a minimum age of 21, have a clean drivers abstract and criminal record search, as well as the ability to pass the MTO medical.

She will be studying the PTDI course offered at Fanshawe College in Simcoe, Ont. with training partner KRTS Transportation Specialists.

The Learn To Earn Scholarship demonstrates an unconventional way for a carrier to recruit the best entry level drivers, said Kim Richardson, president of KRTS.We were thrilled that Bruce R. Smith Limited was the first to offer this scholarship, as they are so well respected in the industry as well as the community.
