AUSTIN, Tex. – A new report by FreightWatch International shows a whopping-28 percent increase in cargo theft on a per-day basis during the Holidays compared with the other calendar days.

The first Holiday Cargo Theft Report, which reviews cargo theft statistics from the seven major holidays in the United States, concludes that cargo thieves are particularly active over these periods for a variety of reasons, primarily because cargo is not in motion and is often left unguarded.

"While it is common knowledge in the logistics security industry that cargo thieves do not take holidays, this report allows us to identify the actual impact," stated Dan Burges, corporate director of Global Intelligence.

He said the Holiday season gives cargo criminals a greater opportunity to commit thefts and disappear with the product.

"Prior to each major holiday, the logistics and security industry is reminded to increase security measures over the upcoming days," Burges continued.
