City council bans rigs from driveways

BAKER, La. — Owner/operators who’ve been parking their trucks at home are going to have to find somewhere else to leave them between trips.

This week, the city council approved a ban that stops truckers from parking their rigs in their driveways and front parking pads. The ban reverses a policy that allowed residents to park one large commercial vehicle at home, as long as they had a permit from the Baker Police Dept. and parked on a concrete pad.

The ban also means truckers won’t be able to park in mobile home parks or light commercial zones.

Truckers with existing permits are being given 90 days to make other parking arrangements for their rigs.
