Clarke Inc. appoints new chairman

TORONTO, Ont. – Hugh Kelly Smith has been appointed chairman of the board for Clarke Inc. a Canadian provider of freight transportation and logistics services.

Smith, who joined the board in February, is vice president of the Municipal Group of Companies, a Halifax-based operator of quarries and asphalt plants.

Smith is also counsel to the Halifax law firm of Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales, with whom he has served since 1969.

He is also chairman of Mirror Nova Scotia Ltd., a solid waste landfill operator in Halifax.

The Clarke Inc. board of directors has also announced the appointment of George Armoyan as president and chief executive officer. Armoyan, who was the former chairman of the board, has been acting president and CEO since the April 4 departure of Darell Hornby.
