Class 8 sales continue surge

TORONTO, Ont. — Monthly North American Class 8 truck orders hit an all-time high of 52,250 units this July, surpassing the previous record of 52,194 set in March 2006, FTR says. And fleets are clearly desperate to get new trucks.

“Supply chain issues began around March. OEMs started falling behind in deliveries to fleets in April. Deliveries did improve a bit in June, but most OEMs are still operating in catch-up mode,” said Don Ake, vice-president of commercial vehicles.

“It is uncertain when suppliers will be able to improve delivery times and for OEMs to ship all orders on time … it may take up to a year for everyone to catch up.”

In terms of actual Class 8 sales, Freightliner led the way in Canada this June, representing 1,021 units, WardsAuto reports. International topped the Class 7 totals with 190 units, while Freightliner led Class 6 with 56 sales. Ford was the sales leader in Class 5 with 362 sales.
