BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Class 8 truck orders showed continued strength in March, with preliminary data from FTR showing 27,139 units.

That marks the fourth consecutive month of solid order activity, FTR reports. December 2013 through March 2014 marks the best four-month period since record-setting 2006.

The past 14 months each have shown a year-over-year improvement with totals for Q1 2014 35% above the same period last year. The last six months of Class 8 order activity annualize to 337,000 units, FTR indicated.

“This is a great order total for the month of March,” said Don Ake, vice-president of commercial vehicles with FTR. “The market is maintaining strength and confirms we are in a solid growth cycle. OEMs are expected to increase build rates in response to their growing backlog.”
