Come Along with Us for a Video Test Drive

MIAMI, FL — It may sound like science fiction, but there is something you can’t see that can help truck drivers avoid crashes and save fuel.

The Detroit Assurance system from Daimler Truckers North America uses forward-looking radar – that’s part you can’t see – that scans hundreds of feet in front of an equipped truck.

Its adaptive cruise control automatically adjusts speed to maintain a safe following distance while it works with the active brake assist and can apply the brakes to mitigate or minimize damage from a collision.

An optional camera system tracks the trucks lane position and alerts the driver if they cross a lane without the turn signal on.

But don’t just take our word for it, climb into the cab of a truck for seven and half minutes with Equipment Editor Jim Park in sunny Miami to see this system in action in real world conditions.

Besides this, it’s safe to view at work and it could even make you richer or smarter.
